The week before Thanksgiving, I was sitting in my office thinking about all of the things I am thankful for. The first thing on my list was my husband and daughter.

I started thinking about some of the families whose loved ones are deployed overseas, and how much they must miss them. I decided I wanted to express my gratitude to a local military family by donating a photo session to them. I have an aquaintance whose husband was deployed in Iraq, so I contacted her to offer her family a session. It turned out that he was coming home the day before Thanksgiving!

I was so honored to be able to capture her husband’s arrival. It was an amzing experience for me to witness all of the love that filled the hangar. Everyone was so joyous, loving, giddy, and EXCITED! There were three moments that will stay with me forever…

1. After the plane landed, the soldiers disembarked in a single file. One soldier got down on his hands and knees and physically kissed the ground. He was so happy to be home.

2. Feeling the energy in the room as the familes waited for their loved ones to be excused. The room was filled with hope, love, and restlessness. I captured the third photo in my gallery as the soldiers were lined up before they were excused.

3. Watching the soldiers embrace their loved ones. I was there to capture Ryan as he approached his daughter, son, and wife for the first time in 6 months. It was so moving to watch him scoop up his daughter, hand her a flower and hug his little family.

I am so grateful for the men and women who serve our country. Thank you for all that you do.

xoxoxo,
Nicole
